Branding & Packaging — Coastal Campus Brewing
Transforming an academic brewing concept into a market-ready craft brand through a scalable identity and packaging system designed for real-world shelf impact.

Context & Problem
This project was developed from a simulated client brief for an academic brewing program. The core challenge was not just visual, but perceptual: how to reposition an educational initiative as a credible, desirable product within the craft beer market. The solution required balancing storytelling and clarity—communicating experimentation and learning while delivering a brand that could compete on shelf, scale across product lines, and adapt to production constraints.

My Role
Led the project end-to-end, owning strategy, concept, visual identity, and packaging system execution.
- Defined positioning to bridge academic and commercial contexts
- Developed concept and narrative aligned with product experience
- Designed logo and scalable identity system
- Built packaging system optimized for product variation
- Applied identity across physical and retail touchpoints

Process
Concept
- Reframed the brief into a clear market-facing positioning
- Defined a core narrative: experimentation → transformation → product
- Explored symbolic assets to communicate process and outcome
- Iterated on logo direction balancing distinctiveness and usability
Design System
- Built a color system supporting product differentiation at scale
- Selected typography balancing character and legibility in packaging
- Created logo variations for production and flexibility
- Established rules to ensure consistency across formats and materials
Application
- Designed a modular label system adaptable to multiple SKUs
- Developed packaging with strong shelf visibility and hierarchy
- Extended the brand into merchandise to reinforce recognition
- Adapted assets for point-of-sale and real-world contexts
Design Principles
Designed for the real world
Every decision considers how the brand performs on shelf, in hand, and across multiple product variations.
Clarity over complexity
Symbolism is distilled into a clean, recognizable mark that remains legible and effective at any scale.
System thinking
The focus is on building a flexible system that supports growth, not isolated design pieces.
Results / Impact
The project delivers a cohesive, production-aware brand system that translates a conceptual brief into a believable product experience, ready to scale across a craft beer portfolio.
- Positioning that bridges academic narrative with commercial appeal
- Packaging system designed for efficient SKU expansion
- Improved shelf differentiation through color and hierarchy
- Consistent identity across packaging, collateral, and retail touchpoints
Reflection & Learnings
- —A strong positioning is what makes a concept feel commercially viable
- —Designing for variation early prevents system breakdown later
- —Effective packaging prioritizes clarity, hierarchy, and distance visibility
- —Real-world constraints (printing, scalability) sharpen design decisions
